I set out to create an engaging, culturally grounded way for Norwegian-speaking diaspora children to learn Afaan Oromoo. I guided the AI with structured vocabulary, progression rules, and authentic photography, resulting in Oromo Reise with interactive worlds, quizzes, and word-picture matching.

What made it work

  • Kept curriculum vocabulary and lesson unlocking rules in simple static modules so new words and worlds can be added without touching UI code
  • Designed word-picture matching as independent practice rather than blocking progression, making learning more playful
  • Used user-provided cultural photography and custom-crafted theme tokens instead of generic templates

Next: Native speaker audio pronunciation for every vocabulary item so children can hear authentic intonation; community-verified Oromo translations for the pending school and body part topics; and connecting a custom domain (e.g. oromoreise.no) for community distribution in Norway.

The prompt
Build a responsive web app 'Oromo Journey' for Norwegian speakers learning Oromo, especially diaspora children connecting with language, family and culture. Inspired by Oromia's green landscapes: forest green, sage, cream, terracotta, golden accents; rounded cards, Oromo-inspired geometric patterns, friendly typography.
